Barkha Gupta
Barkha Gupta
Barkha Gupta studied at Srishti Institute of art, design and technology, Bangalore; and Malmo University Sweden. She spent her formative years in a free, progressive, alternative, education school: Mirambika, New Delhi, based on the philosophy of integral education, which continues to define and influence her practice.
She is a mixed media artist, and a visual storyteller. Having been exposed to architecture, and space from an early age,her work largely explores the themes of identity, and space, and the intimacy, and interaction between them. Historical and contextual research around the subject allows hers to engage with, and assimilate her work into the contemporary world.
It often is a dialogue, and response. Her practice often revisits the concept of home, memories, space (both architectural and perceived) as well as the idea of the body as a space. Documenting her surroundings through drawings and paintings. Inspired by nature and structure her work corresponds to organic form with juxtaposition of geometric lines and textures. Barkha’s work has been showcased as part of group exhibition at the Tate Modern Art Gallery (London); the
Apparao Gallery with TAP (The Art Platform, online); Samukha Gallery (Bangalore); The Student Biennale, Kochi Muziris Biennale(Kochi), and Art Alive (New Delhi),among others.
The artist lives and works in Bangalore.
