Pulp Society is very excited to continue our summer programming with Paper and Play, an exhibition/ hang out zone with games, zines, magazines, toys, and books; practices that start with paper, and engage with a diverse audience in different ways.
We use air conditioning, and the summer slumber in the art world as a lure; but also use this opportunity to invite a brand new audience into the gallery, and the art world, and make it a hospitable 'point of entry', both conceptually, and from a price point of view; making our summer shows easy, fun, and consumable.
In our first iteration of the show, in 2022, we had games by Thukral and Tagra [Net Zero: 2030, and Weeping Farm], and it was quite a fun show, reminiscent of cyber cafes of the 90s/ early 2000s; in terms of the audiences that gathered. We debuted the concept of Paper and Play last year, with publishers, and bookmakers joining our caravan through the show, and the space being lively, and the show being a great success! We want to continue to be the summer hangout!
This year we have added to our array of partners: TAKE on ART, Art India, and MARG; Citizen Gallery, and The Catalyst: Rudolf Von Leyden and India's Artistic Awakening by Speaking Tiger; books by the Amar Chitra Katha group; games and other objects by Potli; digital platforms STIR, and ASAP, and even books by KNMA coming on board.
And some old friends like Reliable Copy, Offset Projects, TIRT, Subko Subculture, Blue Jackal aboard!
And we have a surprise set of books that have come through an open call, also sitting amidst these experiences book makers.
We also have Subko brews in a can available at our gallery.
We’ll be having programs with our bookmakers, and other participants throughout the show. Keep an eye out for these. And see you in our reading corners!
