AVNI BANSAL AND NILANJAN DAS | SCREENPRINT RESIDENCY

The Residency provides uninterrupted time to produce a new body of work and a supportive atmosphere for creative growth and development in innovative printmaking techniques.
Departing from the physical transfer of image from matrix to surface, the exhibition considers paper as a carrier of memory, emotion, history and narrative. The show is curated by Sitara Chowfla.
The resident artists were selected by a jury of the Pulp Society team and guest juror, Sameer Kulavoor.
Nilanjan Das graduated from Rabindra Bharati University with a MFA and BFA from the Graphics Department. A printmaker, he uses the reproductive possibility of print as a point of access to create a direct connection between people and art. Printmaking as a medium of fine arts evolved from the printing technology. Printing is for mass communication and for circulation in public space. Therefore he is interested in the role of printing in public space and observed public spaces and various components it composed of, such as social or legal rules, value systems, norms, functionalities, physical structure, even history of a place. Presently he is researching and working on the gendered interaction in public spaces. Besides his personal practice, he is also working as a trustee and artist in Hamdasti, a Kolkata based art collective focused on community-based art.
Avni Bansal completed her Masters in Printmaking from M.S.U, Faculty of Fine Arts,in 2016 securing a gold medal after completing her bachelors degree from College of Art,Delhi. Her practice involves primarily printmaking and painting, mainly focusing on relief and serigraphy on both paper and cloth. She has exhibited in several important shows both in India and abroad like International Biennale of Small Graphics,Inter-Art Foundation, Romania,2016; Stree Drishti- Contemporary Women Printmakers of India at Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Art and Design,Poland and Regional Museum Gudalajara, Mexico, 2019; 8th Sofia Print Triennale, Bulgaria 2020. She has also bagged the National Award, 56th National Exhibition of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi in 2015. Avni has participated in multiple workshops and residencies. As a professional, she has worked as textile designer and assisted with 1st Print Biennale India 2018, at Lalit Kala Akademi.
